Dana K. Chipman

Dana Chipman serves as the Director of Education for the Federal Judicial Center, located in the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building, Washington, DC. The FJC provides education and training programs throughout the U.S. for judges and employees of the federal courts. He arrived at the FJC early in 2016 from the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was chief committee counsel to the House Select Committee on Benghazi. For the bulk of his professional career, Dana was a judge advocate on active duty with the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant General in 2013 after serving 4 years as the 38th Judge Advocate General of the Army, with duty at the Pentagon. In that position he led nearly 5,000 lawyers and a similar number of paralegals providing legal services to Soldiers and Army/Joint commands throughout the world. As a judge advocate, Dana commanded The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) in Charlottesville, Virginia, and spent nearly 10 years as the senior legal advisor in operational assignments that included Delta Force, the Joint Special Operations Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, and U.S. Central Command. A graduate of West Point and Stanford Law, Dana earned an LL.M. in Military Law from TJAGLCS and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
