Meet Our Speakers

Hon. Janice Miller Karlin

Hon. Janice Miller Karlin, Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Kansas, earned her undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Kansas. Her legal experience, prior to her appointment to the federal bankruptcy court, included service as an Assistant United States Attorney for 22 years, where she served as a civil trial lawyer. She also managed the operations of the Kansas City division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for many years. She has taught at the University of Kansas School of Law as an adjunct instructor in trial practice and also taught various Department of Justice courses while an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Judge Karlin served as a pro bono mediator both for the federal court and the Department of Justice before her appointment Judge Karlin was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge in October, 2002, and hears cases in Topeka, Kansas.
