Dean Strang

Dean Strang is a Wisconsin attorney and a partner at StrangBradley, LLC. He also practiced at Hurley, Burish & Stanton, S.C., Shellow, Shellow & Glynn, S.C. and the large civil law firm, Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach, S.C. Strang has taught at both the University of Wisconsin Law School and Marquette Law School. Strang became nationally prominent beginning in December 2015 because of the Netflix documentary, Making a Murderer. Strang signed on to defend accused murderer Steven Avery in 2006. His defense of Avery is detailed in Making a Murderer, a Netflix original documentary that was released to the public on December 18, 2015. Avery was convicted in 2007 of the murder of Teresa Halbach. Halbach was murdered in October 2005 and Avery was arrested for the murder in November 2005. Avery is serving a life sentence for the Halbach murder. Avery's arrest for the murder of Halbach occurred approximately two years after he was released from prison for a prior sexual assault conviction. He served 18 years of a sentence for that sexual assault conviction before it was established through DNA evidence that he was innocent of that crime. Mr. Strang is the author of the book, Worse Than The Devil: Anarchists, Clarence Darrow, and Justice in a Time of Terror (U. Wisconsin Press 2013), and his second book, concerning the 1918 Chicago federal trial of IWW members will be published in 2018.
